Capitals Recall Alzner and Beagle

The Washington Capitals have announced the recalls of Karl Alzner and Jay Beagle from the AHL Hershey Bears.  Their AHL player pages are linked below their pictures.

 Karl Alzner               Jay Beagle

The 24-year old Beagle played 6 games for the Caps earlier this season and scored his first career goal and assist.  He has played in 9 regular season and 4 playoff games in his career and is having a decent  year in the AHL with 16 goals and 35 points.  I'm sure the brass want to get a look at the big winger (6'4, 208) before the end of the season.  He was recalled in the playoffs last season and could be again this season, perhaps Bruce Boudreau and George McPhee want him to be up to speed.  He's a player that could break in on the 4th line next season.

The 21-year old Alzner has played in 21 NHL games already this season, this being his 6th recall of the year.  In his 51 career games, he has 1 goal, 10 points, and 10 PIM with a -3 rating.  He is having a stellar year in the AHL with a +35 rating in 54 games this season, good for 5th in the league.  He has 102 AHL games under his belt including this season, with 39 points, a +58 rating and 20 PIM, plus another 10 playoff games and a Calder Cup last season.  He has the size (6'2, 210) and speed to be an effective NHL player, and his discipline helps him to avoid bad penalties.  He also provides modest offensive contributions, he could perhaps peak as a 30-point producer in the NHL.  Look for the former Canadian Major Junior Defenseman of the Year to stick with the team next season, but I'm sure in the meantime Alzner wishes he could stick with the team right now and make this a total recall.

Get your butt to Pittsburgh!
